After I finished my first marathon with my sister. I dedicated it to my father who suffered from a brain tumor that should have been fatal, instead he made it, but without the ability to run again.

Kosovo_058

This picture was taken in while visiting Kosovo. It is of some children play in the dirt street of the city of Peja. They seemed oblivious to their worn surroundings, as well as the torrid past that Kosovo held during the war several years back. This image made me think of perseverance, as well as hope for a brighter and more peaceful future for them.

It doesn't matter how long it takes you to get where your going, what matters the most is that you get there.

Ella_bike

This is a photo of my little girl, Ella as she goes through the motions of learning how to ride a bike . Faced with her fears, she rests in the thought that Dad is there to help her. And with that thought she gets her strength and her confidence. Here's to her dad and all the dads who take the time to be one!

My daughter, her husband and newborn baby. My daughter, Jessica, was determined to have her baby before her husband, Matt, would ship out on the cruiser Ronald Reagan. She made it! January 1, 2005 Georgia Porter was born! Her husband, Matt shipped out the next day to the Gulf. It was wonderful and very sad at the same time.

Quotes
I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.
Thomas Paine Scholar, Intellectual, Writer  (1737-1809);
In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins — not through strength but by perseverance.
Jackson Browne Rock Musician  (born 1948);
Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.
Jacob A. Riis Journalist, Photographer  (1849-1914);
Victory belongs to the most persevering.
Napoleon Bonaparte Emporer Of France  (1769-1821);
There is not enough darkness in the world to extinguish a single candle flame.
Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Saint, Founder Of Franciscans  (1181-1286);

Perseverance is being willing to go through two valleys to reach the top of the mountain. Without the valleys we would never appreciate the mount top.
