Your Everyday Hero: My Fiance, My Daughters Soon To Be Step Dad

My fiance came into my life 7 years ago. We took our relationship very slow as I had 2 young daughters to protect, then 5 and 6, and he had not even wanted to have children with his previous wife. We both had to decide if we were a good fit before we could decide if the dynamics would work. Work they have. I was raised by a drug addicted mom, life was a roller coaster of ups and downs. Abused in every way possible throughout my life by those who were supposed to protect me, you might consider me broken when we met. Yet he accepted me as I was. A single mother, struggling to raise 2 daughters and struggling to come to terms with a past that continued to hurt me and hinder my growth. Untrusting and wild, he found a way to show me how to love myself and my daughters. He's given me a foundation to build a healthy loving home for our family and continued guidance, allowing room for error and room for growth. He's been a positive role model to my daughters; teaching them self-respect, to think about consequences, be ethical and moral and honest. He stepped up to be a dad and a husband, a position abandoned by a drug addicted ex-husband, mirroring the mother I was raised by. He took on a position some men walk away from. He will have forever changed the course of my family and the course of those that follow in our path. He not only does this for me, but also enhances the quality of life for many of those around him. He doesn't even know how amazing he is, even when I tell him almost every day.
