Why Can't You?

My father was a bricklayer. In 1979 he was building his dream house, he lost everything because of the economic situation in the early 80's. We had to give away our family pets, because renters couldn't have them. That was really hard. He worked hard to rebuild his dreams after that but in 1999 he had a heart attack. He couldn't work anymore. My brother, Skip was running the family business but tragedy struck our family again. Skip, died of pancreatic cancer soon after. My parents were in trouble and turned to me for help. As a financial adviser, it didn't look good to me but, I asked a question. If none of this had happened what would you have wanted to do in retirement? They thought and decided they wanted to travel and see things they had always dreamed to see. I said why can't you do that now? They said we have no more money. I told them to sell their home and put the most valuable things in storage. They did and ended up traveling the country for a year. All along the Pacific ocean and down to the southern coast and New Orleans. Then all the way to Maine. My father always loved to drive so they got a mobile home and saw things they had given up on. They're not in great shape now but they have passed on to me a great gift, always pursue your dreams!
