Share A Story NowOur only son was born 4 weeks prematurely, didn't breathe for about 5 minutes. He stayed in an incubator in intensive care for 16 days. When he was 14 months old, a neurologist told me very crudely that David had Cerebal Palsy and the best thing would be for him to placed in in an institution. My husband was furious, and his one comment was "We would not do such a thing, we'll raise him just like a normal child, lots of love coupled with discipline". David began to walk at 12 month old, started reading at age 2. I'm not saying it was easy, numerous surgeries and lengthy hospital stays, but he finished high school with good grades and will be 41 yrs. old in May. He's able to dress himself, feed himself, does minor chores as well as cook simple meals. Yes, he needs minor supervision, but a quitter he's not.
